An American Adele

If your on the East coast then you know the snow is coming down, coming down hard.  After aimlessly wondering the internet and finishing math homework, I took another look at youtube.  I remembered that I had saved a bunch of songs I liked on my account.  As I was looking I clicked on Elle King’s “No One Can Save You”.  I just felt like this fitted perfectly for the occasion.

For all that do not know, Elle King is an american musician.  Here genre of music include influences from country, rock, blues and soul.  After following music legends such as Otis Redding, the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Johnny Cash and a little AC/DC, she began to create her own music.  Already educated in playing the guitar at the age 13, it was no surprise that she start going to her own gigs at the age of 16.  As of today the talented singer is signed to RCA Records.  Her first EP debut, The Elle King EP, was released by RCA/Fat Possum Records.  Her songs have been featured in shows such as Mob Wives: Chicago.  There she scored the position for the show’s theme song.

As you can already tell by the title, I give Elle King the title of the American Adele.  Her song has the same biting soulful voice of Adele.  In her song, “No One Can Save You”  the lyrics and the melody are so simple.  The complexity of the repeating guitar chords highlight the soulful and sometimes raw voice of King.  Another highlighted feature is the truthful lyrics of the artist.  The song in a of itself is simple and speaks to even the most loneliest  soul.  If you are a fan of Adele, Elle King is a fantastic rising star to listen to.

A Washed Out Winter Sun

Can you believe it!  Winter is practically here.  The best part about that is obviously getting to wake up with sunshine, thanks to daylight savings.  Under all the fun times and weather crisis’, I’m kind of blue.  Mostly stressed by the upcoming results of the presidential election, I needed a new kick-start to get me through the week.  I surprisingly found it in my dance class.  We were doing these attitude swings, to this really chill song.  So tonight’s song is New Theory by Washed Out.

This über chill music, is created by Earnest Greene. After graduating from college, Greene returned back to his home state of Georgia.  There he began to produce some of his music and post it on his Myspace account.  As time went on music bloggers began to take notice.  Soon he released his first EP in August and September 2009.  In 2011 he signed with Sub Hop and released his first album, Within and Without.

I would definitely classify his music as chill pop.  The most interesting characteristic is the use of intricate synths and beats.  The synths add a texture of calmness but with a bit of a grunge-rebel feeling beat to it.  Greene’s voice also adds another element of fun.  Slightly nazeley, it adds a more fun melody to the song.  The best way to describe the song, is the feeling you get looking out the window while drinking steaming hot chocolate, on a cold winter’s day.  Ya it’s that perfect :p. Definitely keep an eye out for this artist!

Recipe For Perfect Room

As the new school year rapidly approaches I’m getting kind of excited about decorating my dorm room.  Though I can’t put everything in a small room it doesn’t mean a girl can dream.

Bicycle Frenzy

After getting back from Colorado I was happy to see my city and family, but something was missing.  I started to terribly miss my bike ride to work everyday.  While in Colorado, I got to ride my bike pretty much everywhere.  Unfortunately, in the city biking is reserved for the brave and delivery boys(maybe this is a bit of a generalization), but it just seems to be the case).  But then I had an epipahany! End of high school this year+college acceptance= graduation gift!  So I thought I would give my parents a helping hand to my parents.  And what better gift than the awesome Linus Bikes.

Basically just the most awesome bike known to America.  Check out some photo’s and tell me what you think.

Wandering through Jake Bugg’s Trouble Town

For all you Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, folk and rock fans out there, here is a song that will satisfy the music critic in you.  I was wandering through the Nylons Magazine music addition, and came across this interesting artist.  Today’s artist is an 18-year-old singer- songwriter.  Oddly, there seems to no information on him.  What little we do od him

Listen to this:  The song I chose for today was his debut album song.  The song is called Trouble Town.  It has the right amount of Bob Dylan and folk with a hint of edge to it. To add to the retro image Bugg is dressed in a leather jacket and carrying a guitar case, almost resembling Aaron Johnson‘s portrayal of John Lennon in Nowher Boy.

Ray of Sunshine on a Rainy Day

So if anyone reading this is on the East Coast, you might know that today it was rainy day.  Now rainy days in summer always make me sad and makes me miss the sun.  As I was lounging in my bed and looking through my ipod I caught hold of the one song that made my day a little brighter.  The song was Santa Fe by Beirut.

I have heard this song multiple times over the course of the years and when I finally learned the name of the song, I knew it was a match made in music heaven.  Bierut originally was  a musical project by an artist named Zachary Francis Condon.  After meeting up with Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost, and went on a european tour.  As their playlist and fame began to rise.  Some complications with band members ensued, which lead to the current members, Zach Condon, Perrin Cloutier, Nick Petree, Paul Collins, Kelly Pratt, Ben Lanz.

Santa Fe is a great song for the summer.  The layback melody with the Condon’s voice gives the song a chiller vibe.  The choppy synth adds a poppy vibe and catchty beat makes the song stand out.  All these elements can make any rainy day seem like any hot sunny day on the West Coast.

Of Monsters and Men refreshing my earbuds

So tonight’s band is pretty unique.  I was getting really bored of writing my research paper and decided to explore Itunes a little.  I was kind of interested to see this new band that was on the recommended music they always have.  So as I was looking I saw this cool sounding band named Of Monsters and Men.  Instead of doing my homework I actually ended up buying half their album and putting it on repeat.

So this band is not only really cool because they are a six piece indy folk band but because they also are from Finland.  These guys actually sprung from to solo band projects that ultimatley merged with one another.  They were originally founded in 2009 and kept adding members till they had six band members.  The members are Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir(vocals, guitar), Raggi þórhallsson (vocals, guitar, melodica, glockenspiel), Brynjar Leifsson (guitar, melodica), and Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (drums, percussion, melodica, glockenspiel, vocals), Árni Guðjónsson(accordion/keys) and Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bass).

The album that was released in the United States was their debut album My Head is an Animal.    They music is nothing like I have ever heard before.   Most of the songs have an indie/folkie song quality.  I especially like the use of different instruments A.K.A glockenspiel.  Nanna’s voice reminds me of why I fell in love with music.  Personally this music makes me want to sit in a grassy field and feel the wind on my skin.  I know thats kind of weird, but of late their music had really helped me get through the week.    My two favorite songs so far are King and Lionheart and Dirty PawsIf any of you guys are lovers of indy or of folk or just interested in hearing new music, I highly recommend this song to anyone! So I hope you guys like these guys and buy their songs on youtube!

The vaccines finding ways to cure a boring weekend

If you are like me this weekend, your suffering from complete boredom.  Now usually I’m excited for this kind of rest but I’m going out of mind not having anything to do.  But then I found the answer to my problems.  What is the answer you might ask? Well here it is: The Vaccines.

First to start of with these guys are an english indie rock band.  They consist of four band members, Justin Young,Árni Hjörvar,Freddie Cowan, and Pete Roberts.  These west Londoners released their first What did you expect from the Vaccines? was released March 14, 2011.  After reaching number 4 on the UK, people soon compared them to artist such as the The Strokes.

So tonight’s song is Goog guys Don’t Wear White.  Whether that statement is true or not, I have no idea.  But, what I do know is that this band is filled with chaotic and lively sound.  Though the guitars are somewhat mashed together Though I can’t give you a real description, I can tell you that if you like French Films, then you will defiantly like this song!  So I hope you are having a fun weekend and hears the song to add to your fun:

Good Guys Don’t Wear White
