Ray of Sunshine on a Rainy Day

So if anyone reading this is on the East Coast, you might know that today it was rainy day.  Now rainy days in summer always make me sad and makes me miss the sun.  As I was lounging in my bed and looking through my ipod I caught hold of the one song that made my day a little brighter.  The song was Santa Fe by Beirut.

I have heard this song multiple times over the course of the years and when I finally learned the name of the song, I knew it was a match made in music heaven.  Bierut originally was  a musical project by an artist named Zachary Francis Condon.  After meeting up with Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost, and went on a european tour.  As their playlist and fame began to rise.  Some complications with band members ensued, which lead to the current members, Zach Condon, Perrin Cloutier, Nick Petree, Paul Collins, Kelly Pratt, Ben Lanz.

Santa Fe is a great song for the summer.  The layback melody with the Condon’s voice gives the song a chiller vibe.  The choppy synth adds a poppy vibe and catchty beat makes the song stand out.  All these elements can make any rainy day seem like any hot sunny day on the West Coast.

The vaccines finding ways to cure a boring weekend

If you are like me this weekend, your suffering from complete boredom.  Now usually I’m excited for this kind of rest but I’m going out of mind not having anything to do.  But then I found the answer to my problems.  What is the answer you might ask? Well here it is: The Vaccines.

First to start of with these guys are an english indie rock band.  They consist of four band members, Justin Young,Árni Hjörvar,Freddie Cowan, and Pete Roberts.  These west Londoners released their first What did you expect from the Vaccines? was released March 14, 2011.  After reaching number 4 on the UK, people soon compared them to artist such as the The Strokes.

So tonight’s song is Goog guys Don’t Wear White.  Whether that statement is true or not, I have no idea.  But, what I do know is that this band is filled with chaotic and lively sound.  Though the guitars are somewhat mashed together Though I can’t give you a real description, I can tell you that if you like French Films, then you will defiantly like this song!  So I hope you are having a fun weekend and hears the song to add to your fun:

Good Guys Don’t Wear White

Nothing more than Expanaive Looks

Sorry to mislead those expecting this to be about fashion.  Today’s song is a highly addivtive lucid song by Expansive Look.  The man behind the  psych-hop pop music is Alec Field. Alec is a New York based producer.  Most of his music has a lucid sound, calming beats, and disco- echos in the backround. His new song Nothing More is a terrific example of his creative talent.

Nothing More really reminds me of a song you would listen to on a snowy day or if your trying to listen to something mellow.  This song is ideal for snowy or rainy days.  Though not entirely that moving, the song is way to addicitive.  I have spent the entire week re-playing this song in my head.  Not to mention when ever I wake up in the morning it is the first somg in my head.  Here is the youtube video and hope you all have a wonderful holidays(don’t worry I’ll still be posting throughout the weeks):

Gang Gang Dance is a Mindkilla

fSo after the craziness of Thanksgiving I thought a trippy song would be the great remedy.  Tonight’s band is Gang Gang Dance.  This band classifies itself under experimental rock*, electroclash*, and worldbeat*.  They are Manhattan based and founded in 2001.  The founders were Brian Degraw and Tim DeWitt.  After releasing their first album received bad reviews, they met up with vocalist Liz Bougatsos.  They have now added three more band members, Josh Diamond, Jesse Lee, and Taka Imamura.

My favorite song by them is Mindkilla.  As I said in the beginning I was giving you a trippy song.  This song is somewhat unconventional.  Its also a bit unpredictable to.  It has a great beat with some interesting synths.  I hope all of you had a lovely Thanksgiving! I’m now official 17 and I feel so old.  But in other words hope you like the song:

Laura Jansen vs takes on Kings of Leon

Tonight was my school’s dance showcase.  I was particularly excited to see the piece that was choreographed to King of Leon’s – Use Somebody.  I was pleasantly surprised to find the music was actually a cover of Use Somebody.  I immediately went and looked it up.  I learned the singer was a Dutch-American singer/songwriter Laura Jansen.  She originally started her career in Los Angel’s coffeehouse scene.  She soon gained popularity in the Netherlands!  She classifies herself under indie/indie pop.

I have to say that I love her cover of Use Somebody.  I might just like it a tad bit better than the original.  Her use of the piano and her voice makes it perfect to fall asleep to.  I think it also emphasizes the flow and powerful lyrics.  Here is her music video to Use Somebody:

Tripping out on Sleeping Bags

So todays band’s origins are somewhat unclear but I’m going to give you the best explanation I can.  Lets start in at a more practical place with the name, Sleeping Bags.  Now I really want to point out the quirky-ness of the band’s name.  Only to add to the awesome quirky -ness they are an indy pop band (hooray my favorite!!!)   Basically this band was started by two twin bother Matt and Jessie Kivel. Hailing from the second indy pop capital California, they teamed up with other super unknown artists Abe Burns, Dave Lewis and Mark Nieto.

They have only released one song called shark.  Now I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was my favorite song but it is definitely a song that can earn you bragging hipster points.  Their song is like a really indescribable  acid trip( hence the title).  Here is the Soundcloud track for all the listen to:

Girls Names

Feeling like you need a break from the world?  Is Mom and Dad giving you a headache?  Well here’s a Northern Irish band called Girls Names.   I find it quite difficult to find a band that express the feeling of rebellion.  Leave it up to the awesome Irish to finally get it down with paper and melody to make my life.  These guys are so awesome that they classify themselves under Gothic / Pop / Shoegaze.  Who knew Shoegaze existed?  To make them even cooler their totally unsigned!!!  They produced their first album in April last year.

This band is definitely recommended people who miss The Who and The Beatles.  They have great guitars.  The best part is you can’t understand the lyrics but who cares cause the rest is the terrific. I  recommend highly to anyone who loves music and needs a good tune to listen to.

Golden Sea bringing a little light

As the dreary cold days of winter are rapidly approaching, here is a song to lighten up your day. Golden Sea.is a feel good song that makes life a bit more bearable.  The artists are a Finish band called French Films.  This their first song and let me tell you it gold!  They are the essence of indy bands.  Interestingly enough, they are a five piece band.  This is the only song that has been released in the United States.

If you need a song to jump up and down to and just not care about the world this is a really good song to listen to.  The voices have a nice deep voice with just the right amount of roughness in it.  The guitar in it is also fantastic and makes my world go round.  Just in general these people make me happy(which takes some extra boost to do these days).  So take it from me put this song on repeat and forget about the world and just feel the pure bliss.  Here is French Films:

Bringing in the the cold with Winter Beats

Much as I hurt to admit this but fall is settling in.  So I though this night’s post should welcome the dreaded season.  Now the cold means New Yorkers will become more irritable which call for a good song to walk the streets with.  So I found one you guys might like.  The band is called I Break Horses.  They are a swedish band from Stockholm.  The band consists of the duo Maria Lindén and Fredrik Balk.  I would definitely classify them as indie and dreamy indie.

They have only releases one song from their debut album Hearts.  Winter Beats reminds me alot of the dreariness of the winter.  But maybe with a little hope and music it won’t be so cold.  Lindén offers some hope in her wintery lyrics “Don’t let that cold blood freeze”.  Here is their first song Winter Beats:

Winter beats- I break horses

Daniel Johnston and bringing back retro

So first let me start off by saying how very sorry I am for my over due posts.  Lately I have had a boat load of homework, so just bare with me.  Second, while I decided tonight was the perfect time for procrastination, I started watching trailers.  I found this interesting international film called Sidwalls.  I found this adorable song that even gives me hope for my life.  The song is called True love will find you in the end.  It is by a singer/ songwriter Daniel Johnston.  He was born in 1961 but he was also a visual artist, which makes him even cooler.

I could give you guys a whole detailed/ more organized explanation of why this song is worthwhile. All I have to say is it makes believe that there’s someone out there.  So if your blue about love, life, or people in general this song is for you.  In addition, I’m going to let you guys be the judge this time.  Since I only want to hear your opinions I’m posting the music video but also the lyrics and would really love it if you guys told me some of your thoughts.  Here are the lyrics and audio recording:

True love will find you in the end- Daniel Johnston

Lyrics to the song:

True love will find you in the end
You’ll find out just who was your friend
Don’t be sad, I know you will,
But don’t give up until
True love finds you in the end.

This is a promise with a catch
Only if you’re looking will it find you
‘Cause true love is searching too
But how can it recognize you
Unless you step out into the light?
But don’t give up until
True love finds you in the end.
