MoonRise Kingdom Setting the Tone for Summer

In the city when summer is calling so, so are the new movies.  So on this wonderful lazy Saturday I went to see the new indie flick MoonRise Kingdom.  The film is centered around two nine-year-old boy and girl living on a island know as New Penzence.  A khaki scout,  Sam (the little boy) runs away to find his love Susy Bishop.  Together they run away and a chase ensues including the island police (Bruce Willis) , Susy’s dysfunctional parents (played by Bill Murray and Francis McDormand) and the Chief Scout Master (Edward Norton).  Along the way they renages get ensnared if scout battles, avoiding social service workers (Tilda Swinton) and utimatley being married by a fellow scout master (Jason Schwartzman).

Altogether I thought the movie was cute.  The movie had this odd charm to it.  The set was pratical and the script was clean and cut.  I thought it was one of the most original films I have seen all summer!  Both Susy and Sam make quite the pair and for their age they are pretty smart.  I was surprised by the heartwarming moments between Edward Norton and Bruce Willis.  And of course I enjoyed the humor!  All around it made a good movie!

Rating: 10 Go see it!!!

Let’s Go and Enjoy Summer with Matt & Kim

Summer is here and it’s time to kick back and enjoy yourself.  Summer is all about relieving the stress you have felt during the year.  Summer is also time to be spontaneous and stepping outside your comfort zone.  But before you get going on awesome summer trips you have to have a good tune to set the summer.  So I only thought it would be appropriate that tonight’s song is Matt & Kim’s Let’s Go.

As to whether  Let’s Go is their new single that was featured in the Sony’s Xperia ad.  In true Matt & Kim fashion, the song has an upbeat and peppy beat to it.  The whole point of the song was expertly describe in the opening lyrics:

“I was up in my head
for everything I said
quote a million words
they’re all made with lead

In general Matt & Kim is a great band to listen to during the summer.  If you liked this song you might also enjoy

I woke up this morning and decided to paint something on my orange accent wall. While I can be creative, the grandiose world of fine art has eluded me thus far, as my stick figures keep turning out to look like mops and broomsticks. As a result it's rather sloppily done, but I forgive myself of any lack of acute artistic ability by finding perfection in wholly imperfect things.

Wandering through Jake Bugg’s Trouble Town

For all you Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, folk and rock fans out there, here is a song that will satisfy the music critic in you.  I was wandering through the Nylons Magazine music addition, and came across this interesting artist.  Today’s artist is an 18-year-old singer- songwriter.  Oddly, there seems to no information on him.  What little we do od him

Listen to this:  The song I chose for today was his debut album song.  The song is called Trouble Town.  It has the right amount of Bob Dylan and folk with a hint of edge to it. To add to the retro image Bugg is dressed in a leather jacket and carrying a guitar case, almost resembling Aaron Johnson‘s portrayal of John Lennon in Nowher Boy.
