So tonight’s band is pretty unique. I was getting really bored of writing my research paper and decided to explore Itunes a little. I was kind of interested to see this new band that was on the recommended music they always have. So as I was looking I saw this cool sounding band named Of Monsters and Men. Instead of doing my homework I actually ended up buying half their album and putting it on repeat.
So this band is not only really cool because they are a six piece indy folk band but because they also are from Finland. These guys actually sprung from to solo band projects that ultimatley merged with one another. They were originally founded in 2009 and kept adding members till they had six band members. The members are Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir(vocals, guitar), Raggi þórhallsson (vocals, guitar, melodica, glockenspiel), Brynjar Leifsson (guitar, melodica), and Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (drums, percussion, melodica, glockenspiel, vocals), Árni Guðjónsson(accordion/keys) and Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bass).
The album that was released in the United States was their debut album My Head is an Animal. They music is nothing like I have ever heard before. Most of the songs have an indie/folkie song quality. I especially like the use of different instruments A.K.A glockenspiel. Nanna’s voice reminds me of why I fell in love with music. Personally this music makes me want to sit in a grassy field and feel the wind on my skin. I know thats kind of weird, but of late their music had really helped me get through the week. My two favorite songs so far are King and Lionheart and Dirty PawsIf any of you guys are lovers of indy or of folk or just interested in hearing new music, I highly recommend this song to anyone! So I hope you guys like these guys and buy their songs on youtube!

Now I have to say I really like quotes. I have a bunch of them in my computer but never seem to share them. Quotes are especially great when you need a smile on your face or just need something to inspire you. So here are some quotes that I personally really love.
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”
― Albert Einstein
“So many books, so little time.”
― Frank Zappa
“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
― Douglas Adams
“I’m not afraid of death; I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”
― Woody Allen
“Reality continues to ruin my life.”
― Bill Watterson, The Complete Calvin and Hobbes
“The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only one whose answers I accept.”
― George Carlin
“Two wrongs don’t make a right, but they make a good excuse.”
― Thomas Stephen Szasz
Sometime this week I posted a video of this artist. I gave a somewhat meager description of who he was. But today I was planning on giving a better explanation. If you are a fan Britain and singers who come out of Britain than you are going to love Ed Sheeran. I have to give credit to my friend who introduced me to him. We were sitting in my dorm common room and she typed in his name, the only description was ” he was dubbed the Kind of Britain”. I was really intrigued to see who had gotten such a great rating. Hopefully by the end of the review you see to.
Like most great artists Ed started to play the guitar at a young age. By the age of eleven Ed was already opening for small bands. During his time in high school he began writing his own songs about he childhood and various trips to London. In 2005 he started recording his EP The Orange Room. The next year he released two self titled albums and another one in 2007 titled Want Some? As the years continued he made appearances at small gigs. He finally broke out In june 2011 with his final release of independent EP called no.5 Collaborations Project. Soon after that he started to gain mainstream attention. After appearing on UK TV, he soon released his debut album The A Team. Since then he has gone on to reap awards from the Brit Awards, BT Digital Music awards, MOBO Awards, and Q awards.
This weekend’s song is not the usual kind of song. What makes this weekends song really cool is that it is acapella. If any of you don’t know that means there are no instruments used, you create the melody, harmony, and beat by using your voice. Not only is he extremely talented but he has a very strong voice. Even n the higher notes he can keep it in perfect pitch. This guy is just amazing! He has so much talent and I hope you guys love it and share with everyone. Now it’s the weekend go and have fun!
